It is so common to observe your neighbors using their lawn mowers that we never ask ourselves how this device came into being. Most of us believe that a lawn mower is a marvel of modern science and came into existence only in the recent era.
Truth is, that this device was already designed and manufactured much before the steam engine was built. Back then lawn mowers were powered by manual labor either using men or beasts such as horses. However, the mechanism of action that rotated the blades causing them to slice through blades of grass did not undergo any change over the years. Only design changes and increase in efficiency improved.
Today, the same concept is bettered using gasoline power and electric power to use a motor. Back then it was the manual transmission of power from the wheels of the machine to the rotating blades using a gear system much like what is used in an automobile today.
