According to the announcement by the designated facility, an estimated BP settlement of $7.8 billion would be set initially for the thousand of residents living in the Gulf area that was affected by the oil spill. These same residents, along with business owners, have been hurt and affected by the said tragedy. The purpose of these settlements is to compensate for the losses incurred by the nation’s worst environmental disaster. However, for many, life after the spill will never be the same. Businesses and fish industries are the ones who were very much affected by the Gulf Coast disaster. Business owners, fishermen and other workers who earn their living n the Gulf Coast area believe that this restitution offered is not enough.

But how does the BP settlement save the Gulf coast and those who live around it? The government came up with the Clean Water Act. In the said act, the BP facility will need to pay the government of the United States around $17.5 billion if BP is proven guilty of committing gross negligence. There are more to settle for BP and in the long run, they will have to end up settling money instead of settling in court. Many believe that if the money will be used according to its purpose, the Gulf Coast’s economy and the environment may truly be saved.

Business owners who have lost their income can now apply for bp claims. This is a compensation given by the British Petroleum oil company to help business owners restore their businesses. The oil company and the US government have agreed to release this compensation only to the people who have been directly affected. Many businesses along the Gulf Coast have suffered from the big accident. Hotel and Resorts had to close down because the oil has covered their shores making a big mess in their property.
The incident caused a lot of economic losses that also affect the countrys economic position in the world. It was two years ago when BP Oil Company caused a big oil explosion in the Gulf Coast but until now the company is still processing the oil spill claims. Many individuals and businessmen who were affected by the oil spill haven’t received their compensation from the Gulf Coast Claims Facility. For some reasons the facility is basically delaying their application process.
Fortunately, the GCCF office will change their leadership soon. The head Mr. Ken Feinberg will step down and will be replaced by Lynn Greer. Lawyers and clients are very hopeful that once this change will be implemented things will be better. Hopefully the facility would implement new rules that would be in favor of the claimants and not to the BP Oil Company. Hopefully this major leadership change will benefit the claimants and not the Oil Company.
